Challenging Field Sobriety Tests

Field Sobriety Tests in Bucks County

Have you been charged with drunk driving? You may think that the cards are stacked against you if you took field sobriety tests. However, these tests are highly subjective and administered by police whose sole objective it is to gather evidence to be used against you.

At Zlock & Snyder, P.C., we defend people who have been charged with DUIs in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. We know how unreliable field sobriety tests can be, and we are skilled at challenging the results. Contact an attorney online or call 267-772-6111 to schedule a free initial consultation in our Langhorne or Doylestown office.

Are Field Sobriety Tests Accurate?

Popular field sobriety test include the horizontal gaze, finger to nose touching, and the one-leg stand. Rather than testing blood alcohol content (BAC), they test an individual's balance and ability to follow directions.

Field sobriety tests can be difficult even for a completely sober person. Combined with the stress and anxiety of a DUI traffic stop, any individual can have difficulty passing these tests — regardless of alcohol consumption.

At Zlock & Snyder, P.C., we are skilled and well experienced at challenging the results of field sobriety tests. We will look at the circumstances surrounding the traffic stop, the officer's qualifications, road conditions, and other factors.

Is the Breathalyzer Test Accurate?

The breathalyzer test and similar tests such as the Intoxilyzer, are more accurate at determining an individual's BAC level than field sobriety tests. However, there are many factors that can skew the test results. In a DUI defense case, we investigate whether the test results were accurate, whether the officer was properly trained in administering the test, and other factors that can affect the validity of the results.
